OS - Servers: The major development would be done on Windows platforms (95/98/NT), but the site would be tested on Linux (RedHat) machine. At a later stage of the development where we need to use databases for storing the huge chunk of data, we plan to use either MS-SQL 7.0 on Windows specific platforms and My-SQL for working on the Linux platforms. By doing these we look to make the site compatible to either web - servers. Top Graphics: The major part of the web - site designing requires an extensive use of good quality graphics. A few of the best tools available in the market for graphics creations, like Adobe PhotoShop 5.0 & Macromedia's Flash 4.0, are used through the course of the project. To further enhance the web - site we also plan to make use of other tools from Macromedia's home like ShockWave and FireWorks. Also animating tools like GIF Animators, from different sources could be used to make good quality animation and graphics. Top Scripts: To have interactive web - site, we need to have programs that talk to the databases for exact information requested. This could be very well done by CGI - PERL programming, JavaScript, ASP programming. We might, at some stage, require DHTML too. Also if required, we could add Java Applets on to the site. Top
The Hardware's used for
the development are higher - end Pentium
machines, running either Windows 95 or Windows
98 Operating systems on it. We also have a test
machine with Linux installed on it to
test out the pages on Linux server. Most of the machines
have minimum 64MB RAM to 128 MB
RAM, which leads to a better performance and
faster development of the site. These machines are well
equipped with Multimedia support and all
the necessary accessories like CD Drives, Modem
etc. Top |
Editors: To develop the prototype site, and
henceforth the development of the actual site, will be
done with the help of the following development tools
such as, the front-end tools like Microsoft's
FrontPage Express'97/2000 & Macromedia's
DreamWeaver 2.0/3.0. This would be upgraded as
and when the newer versions are available, so as to keep
up with the latest technological development tools. Top Presentations: AS the major part of the site is supposed to be done in Indian Regional languages, here we propose to make use of C-DAC's iLeap 2.07b. To provide good quality study material, Microsoft's PowerPoint'97 would be used extensively throughout the development process. In addition to these requirements we move a step ahead and provide Multimedia way of learning. Top Browsers: While in the process of developing the prototype site for abhyas.com, we experienced difficulties with the choice of browser that suits the best for the site. At the end we strongly recommend Netscape Navigator 4.5 (or higher versions). We use tools like Cute FTP for uploading the pages and contents onto the site. Top
